Pottery, ever since I have tried my hands on, has always attracted me immensely as a craft. I have always felt this divine feeling when I have given shape to a face or structure made of clay and my constant inspiration has been Kumortuli, the potter’s quarters in Kolkata. I have always wondered whether the artists of Kumortuli too share the same feeling when they recreate our creators. Just before the arrival of Durga Puja this place gives us the best possible view of how Kolkata gets ready for its Puja days. The making of the idols and all the fine arts related to it is really something worth noticing. And later when I had started off with my photographic journey the alleyways of Kumortuli is a place I have tried to capture every year as it somehow makes justice to a craft that I barely get a chance to practice anymore.
